Cleaning a Large Refrigeration "Chiller" With XYSOL® Saves Replacement Cost, Eliminates Waste, Minimizes Downtime

Benefits

  • Successfully removed years of sludge accumulation in the client’s chiller vessel
  • XYSOL®/dissolved sludge sold as condensate = cost recovery
  • Earlier competitors’ attempts to clean the vessel were ineffective
  • Effectively cleaned exchange surfaces and vessel interior with no need to open the vessel.
  • Entire cleaning operation
  • No need to haul off XYSOL®/sludge material
  • E & B Oilfield & Brenntag’s exclusive XYSOL® process is safe, simple, fast, and extremely efficient.

In a large oil and natural gas facility in NW Colorado, this Major Operator was considering replacement of a large refrigeration heat exchange vessel which was performing at sub-par levels due to years of accumulated hydrocarbon sludge in the exchange vessel severely hindering exchange efficiency.

E & B Oilfield Services Inc. and Brenntag proposed a new methodology using their exclusive paraffin and asphaltene solvent XYSOL®.

Video inspection of the vessel interior initially showed massive amounts of hydrocarbon sludge throughout. An initial circulation of XYSOL® made a huge improvement, and a second circulation cleaned the vessel to “as new” condition, thereby avoiding a costly shutdown and vessel replacement, exceeding the client’s expectations.

The entire cleaning process took less than 24 hours.

The client is now optimistically considering similar XYSOL® applications in a variety of other vessels within their mature facility.

Cleaning Field Dehy Units With XYSOL® Saves Time, Eliminates Waste, Minimizes Downtime

Benefits

  • Successfully removed months of wax accumulation throughout client’s field dehy units.
  • XYSOL®/dissolved wax sold as condensate = cost recovery.
  • No watery, caustic interface to dispose of.
  • Effectively cleaned contact towers with no need to open the vessels.
  • Entire cleaning operations averaging < hours.
  • No need to boil off residual cleaning water contamination at restart.
  • Brenntag’s exclusive XYSOL® process is safe, simple, fast, and extremely efficient.
  • Brenntag can create a scheduled cleaning program to ensure meeting ongoing pipeline gas specification.

In a large natural gas property in Wyoming, an Operator needed to regularly clean their numerous field dehydration units using a competitors water-based, labor intensive process. Brenntag proposed a new methodology using their exclusive paraffin and asphaltene solvent XYSOL®.

The process involved removal of the degraded glycol, then circulation of a similar volume of XYSOL® for 3-5 hours, removal of the XYSOL®/paraffin wax solution, then replacement of fresh glycol. Upon bringing the fresh glycol to operating temperature, the dehy unit was back on line, all within 6-8 hours total treatment time. This compared very favorably with the older process.

The Operator, after using the Brenntag/XYSOL® process on over a dozen field dehy’s, has requested that Brenntag initiate and operate a scheduled dehy cleaning regimen using XYSOL® in their field to lower costs and increase efficiency.

Comparison: Field Dehy Cleaning With New Brenntag Process Using XYSOL® Vs. Obsolete Water Based Method; Yields Downtime Savings, Eliminates Waste Disposal Cost, Environmental Benefits

Benefits

  • Successfully removed months of wax accumulation throughout client’s field dehy units.
  • Entire cleaning operations averaging
  • No need to boil off residual cleaning water contamination at restart.
  • XYSOndissolved wax sold as condensate = cost recovery.
  • No watery, caustic interface to dispose of.
  • Effectively cleaned contact towers with no need to open the vessels.
  • the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® is safe, simple, fast, and extremely efficient.

Brenntag can create a scheduled cleaning program with the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® to ensure meeting ongoing pipeline gas specification.
In a large natural gas field in Wyoming, an Operator wanted to compare their older water-based field dehydration unit cleaning methods vs. the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL®.

The operator cleaned several dehy units using their old process. Then, within a few days, the operator cleaned these same units again with the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL®.

In every case, the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® removed large volumes of paraffin which had been left in the dehy units following the old process. The operator also stated that the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® allowed them to return to active gas processing much sooner than seen with the old process and at a far lower treatment cost.

Following the positive indications of their process comparison, the operator has adopted the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® for all future dehy cleaning operations in their field, significantly lowering costs and increasing efficiency.

Cleaning Large Dehy With New Brenntag Process Using XYSOL® Vs. Obsolete Water Based Method; Yields Huge Downtime Savings, Eliminates Waste Disposal Cost, HSE Benefits

Benefits

  • Successfully removed months of wax accumulation in client’s large dehy unit.
  • Entire cleaning operation took —13 hours.
  • No need to boil off residual cleaning water contamination at restart.
  • XYSOL®/dissolved wax sold as condensate = cost recovery.
  • No watery, caustic interface to dispose of
  • Effectively cleaned contact tower with no need to open the vessel.
  • the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® is safe, simple, fast, and extremely efficient.
  • Brenntag can create a scheduled cleaning program with the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® to ensure meeting ongoing pipeline gas specification.

In a natural gas facility in Utah’s Uintah Basin, our client operator wanted to clean their large (100 MMCFD capacity) dehydration unit with the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL®.

The operator had cleaned the dehy unit using their older water-based field cleaning process about 16 months prior, but performance had declined to the point of requiring another cleaning.

The operator stated that the earlier water-based cleaning process had resulted in several recordable spills, the need for acid and caustic handling, and high costs related to a multitude of personnel and vehicles, spill containment and clean up, large volumes of waste disposal, excessive transport costs, and several days downtime.

The operator stated that the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® allowed them to return to active gas processing literally days sooner than the old process and at a far lower treatment cost, with zero spills or incidents. Performance improvement allowed the operator to reduce operating temperatures and glycol circulation rates while still easily achieving pipeline water specifications. Following the positive indications of their process comparison, the operator intends to use the new Brenntag Process using XYSOL® for all future dehy cleaning operations in their facilities, significantly lowering HSE risks, costs and increasing efficiency.
